Capacity Investigations
Line capacity, Station capacity, UIC capacity
Before operational programs are created and decisions about infrastructure enhancements are made it is essential to evaluate the required or existing capacity of lines and stations. Therefore lines, extensive stations and yards are evaluated considering their interdependencies by RMCon. Timetable featuring both passenger and freight traffic are considered and evaluated completely. This approach ensures that the results can be implemented in future day-to-day operation.
A line or station capacity depends largely on the operational program which is defined through the timetable homogeneity, succession of train type, stopping pattern etc.
The simulation system evaluates, whether an operational program performs with acceptable quality on the track infrastructure provided. If so then the capacity is satisfactory. If not either the operational program (e. g. reduction of train runs, grouping of trains with same operational characteristics, introduction of trains with higher acceleration rate) or the track infrastructure (decrease of block length, additional points to provide parallel movement possibilities, additional tracks, elimination of same level junctions) has to be modified. Further details on capacity investigations can be found in the paragraph “Timetable Construction”.
